Tourmaline (BiXi)


Bixi, whose mineralogy name is tourmaline, is a kind of Boron silicate mineral and has the most abundant colors. Its main colors include: red, yellow, blue, green, purple, brown, black and so on. Tourmaline has complex chemical composition. Its chemical formula is(Na,Ca)(Mg,Fe2+,Fe3+,Li,Al)3AL6[Si6O18](Bo3)3(OH;F)4.Tourmaline is trigonal system. Crystal is in short columnar, long columnar and needle shapes. The both ends have different conical surfaces and the fracture surface appears spherical triangles. Except the black and colorless opaque ones, most tourmaline has obvious dichroism. The tourmaline with more Fe and Mg,is in long columnar shape. Dravite appears trigonal column with coarse granule. Elbaite is in needle shape.

According to color, structure and composition, tourmaline is mainly divided into the following kinds:
Color: pink, green, black, white, brown, yellow, green and so on.
Structure: crystalline tourmaline, columnar tourmaline, ditrigonal pyramidal tourmaline, spherical triangle tourmaline, radial tourmaline (fibrous), cryptocrystalline tourmaline and so on.
Composition: dravite, iron tourmaline, tsilaisite, chrome tourmaline and so on.

The granule we can produce is from 325 mesh to 32000 mesh.

The test powder is magnified by the electron microscope (SEM) by 36 thousand times: the structure of tourmaline is spherical, particle is distributed well, the granule is about 70-100 nm. Tested by transmission electron microscope (TEM), part of the structure is fibrous; the long diameter is about 200nm and the short diameter is about 30nm. In order to realize the uniform particle, we have to use air current grinding and wet grinding. After nano-crystallization, the powder has to be polished by nano polishing apparatus.

¢õ. The change of surface activity of tourmaline
The test object reflecting the surface activity is increasing with the decrease of the granule of tourmaline. The change rate of the surface activity change is the greatest when the granularity is between 80 and 60nm.
¢ö. Application
During practical application, it should guarantee the good structure of tourmaline and make the particle as tiny as possible. The best granularity is 75-120 nanometer.
¢÷.Differences between different areas:
The tourmaline from different origin has different structures:
Xinjang area: tourmaline is mainly geode pegmatite, mainly intergrowth with lepidolite, emerald, crystal, topaz, lilaapatite, yellow-green spodumene, aquamarine and so on.
Brazil: tourmaline is mainly in placer, intergrowth with topaz, amethyst and diamond.

Black tourmaline (more applied in): water treatment, functional ceramics, land improvement, health care and environmental textile industry.
Pink and white tourmaline (more applied in): textile industry, cosmetics, coating, medical apparatus and instrument, medicine, health care products, underwear, bedclothes, fuel economizer, electric splint, ceramics, automobile surface treatment, air purification, bioengineering and other high-tech industries.

C. grade: select the best quality tourmaline, after surface treatment; the grade can be improved by 95-98%
